Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ursuline College dropped its regular season finale to Trevecca Nazarene University, 89-79, on Saturday (March 1) afternoon.

The Arrows conclude the regular season .500 overall (13-13) and in conference play (8-8) while the Trojans, winners in three straight and 11 of their last 12, improved to 17-8 and 14-2 in the conference. The win earned the Trojans their second consecutive G-MAC regular season title and thus the right to host the G-MAC Championships March 6-8.

Freshman wing Tajanee Wells, who scored 24 points in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 25, had 26 points on Saturday. She was an efficient 9-15 (60 percent) from the field and also pulled down seven rebounds to go with four assists.

Four other Arrows scored in double figures as senior reserve guard Katie Cappello chipped in 14, junior forward Emma Ricketts scored 12 and freshman lead guard Erica Huber finished with 11 points.

Reserve freshman forward Laney Lewis was the other Arrow to score in double figures as she had 13 to go with a career-high 14 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and the eighth by an Arrow this year.

Four Trojans had at least 10 points and TNU was paced by 19 points and 11 rebounds from guard Christina Curtner. Forward Anna Mitchell had 17 points, nine of which came at the free throw line, and seven rebounds while her frontcourt partner Sarah Raby scored 14. Guard Helen Mitchner came off the bench to chip in 10.

When the Trojans pulled ahead 12-5 with 15:05 to go in the first half, it was the largest lead for either team in the opening period. Ursuline responded with an 8-0 run to pull ahead 13-12 on a Wells hoop at the 11:39 mark. Both teams held a four-point lead at one point during the remainder of the half, but neither could establish a larger gap. At the break Trevecca Nazarene led 41-40.

The second half remained tight until the mid-way point. Ursuline led 63-62 with 11:29 to go and had hit nine (9-of-15) three-pointers at that point, but the Arrows would miss their next eight attempts.

TNU used a 6-0 run to take a five-point (68-63) lead with 9:18 to go. The Trojan lead expanded to eight (76-68) on a Britt Bell jumper with 3:36 to go and peaked at 10 (83-73) with 1:03 showing on the clock after a Curtner free throw. Trevecca Nazarene finished the game, again, with a 10-point victory.

Trevecca Nazarene's biggest advantage in the enhanced scoring categories was 12-4 in second chance scoring. That can largely be credited to the 49-42 edge in rebounding.

After concluding the regular season today, the Arrows will shift their attention to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships which begin on Thursday (March 6). Ursuline, seeded fifth, will battle fourth-seeded Davis & Elkins College in Nashville on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene.

That game will start at 2:30 p.m. Central / 3:30 p.m. Eastern. Media coverage is yet to be announced, but check UrsulineArrows.com and follow our social media platforms to receive information as soon as its available.
