UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Both Ursuline College and Salem International University hit 26 field goals on Saturday (Feb. 8) evening but the Arrows drained four more three-pointers than the Tigers and UC scored 10 more points from the charity stripe on its way to an 85-71 Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory at John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
The Arrows have climbed back over the .500 mark and sit at 11-10 overall and 7- 5 in conference play. The Fighting Tigers have lost seven straight and are 4-16 overall and still searching for their first G-MAC victory this year (0-10).
Freshman point guard Erica Huber led UC with 19 points and her classmate Tajanee Wells had 16. Senior guard Katie Cappello provided a nice lift off the bench with 15 points, 12 of which came via the three-ball. Junior forward Emma Ricketts finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds to grab her fifth double-double of the year.
SIU's Inkera Patterson contributed a game-high 21 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Tashay Smith had 13 points and 10 boards and Porcha Davis and Marissa Carry both scored 12 for Richard Marshall's team.
The Fighting Tigers won the battle of the boards by seven (35-28) but UC forced a season-high 29 turnovers. Shannon Sword's team can thank its terrific free throw shooting for helping the cause Saturday night. Guards Cappello, Grigsby and Huber combined to go 16-16 at the charity stripe.
Ursuline took a 42-31 lead into halftime before building its lead to as many as 21 in the second half. The Fighting Tigers never got within single digits in the last 20 minutes.
The Arrows are idle from competition until next Saturday (Feb. 15) when Wilberfoce University pays a visit to
John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. and Max Radigan will call the action live on the
Ursuline College Sports Network.
Additionally, the Pizzazz on the Circle Live Stats will be provided

Prior to the game, Ursuline's three seniors will be honored as part of Senior Night festivities.
