WEDNESDAY (February 12, 2014)
The Ursuline College swimming and diving program demonstrated tremendous progress on Wednesday (Feb. 12) morning at the SPIRE Institute, where the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be taking place over the next four days.
No Arrow qualified for the finals in an individual event, but fast times were coming in all over the place.
Freshman Rachael Fogel swam a 2:16.93 in the 200 IM, a huge drop from her seed time of 2:25.78. That showing beat eight other swimmers on Wednesday and established a new Ursuline College school record.
Fogel's classmate Hannah Jorz needed 12:20.88 to swim the 1,000 free – more than 25 seconds quicker than her 12:46.08 seed time.
In the 50 free, seniors Allie Butta and Lauren Sharnsky both came in under their best times. Butta swam a 27.44 and Sharnsky covered the distance in 28.73.
The GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships will run through Saturday (Feb. 15). On Thursday (Feb. 13), Butta, Jorz and Sharnsky will all be competing in the 200 free and Fogel will partake in the 100 fly. Those four student-athletes will also get together to race in the 200 free relay.
