SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Ursuline College basketball team showed it can play with anybody in Thursday (Dec. 4) night's 73-65 loss to Cedarville University in what was the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Arrows are now 0-7 overall (think there's a better 0-7 team around?) while the Lady Jackets improved to 7-1.

Freshman guard Kristen Curtis entered Thursday with three career points but she connected on four straight three-pointers late in the first half to push the Arrows in front 38-32 at halftime. UC trailed 30-21 with 4:01 to go before Curtis led the 17-2 run to close the frame.

It wasn't until there was 10:17 remaining that Cedarville tied it up at 51-51. The Yellow Jackets built a seven-point lead (58-51) with 7:51 to go and the Arrows never got closer than three from that point on.

Senior forward Emma Ricketts led UC with 14 points and six rebounds while sophomore point guard Erica Huber had 13 to go with four assists. Curtis finished with 12 points on 4-6 shooting and senior guard Brianna Woods chipped in nine.

Freshmen Camryn Hill and Makayla Rosselot both scored six points and their classmate Madison Schroeder scored five to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

Raegan Ryan, the two-time G-MAC Athlete of the Week, scored 16 points for Cedarville, as did Abby Wolford. Regina Hochstetler scored 15 and pulled down six rebounds in her 22 minutes of action. Starting forward Kayla Linkous grabbed a game-high 12 boards.

Ursuline committed 10 fewer turnovers than Cedarville (24-14) but corralled 10 less rebounds (37-27). The Yellow Jackets shot a whopping 60.9 percent in the second half while winning the final period 41-27.

The Arrows will head to Wilberforce to take on Central State University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 6). Max Radigan will call all the action live on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
