The Arrows are now 0-6 overall while Lake Superior State improved to 3-0. LSSU was the fifth team from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that UC has played already this year with Clarion University last Sunday (Nov. 23) being the lone exception.
After falling behind by as many as 17 (LSSU led 28-11 with 10:05 left in the first), Ursuline trailed 39-28 at halftime in large part because the Lakers shot 50 percent (8-16) from beyond the arc in the first half. Freshman guard Makayla Rosselot was a monster with 14 of her 18 points coming in the first 20 minutes. Aside from Rosselot's 14 and 10 points from Ricketts in the first period, only two other Arrows, freshman forward Camryn Hill and senior guard Brianna Woods, scored.
Hill hit a bucket to bring UC within six at 41-35 with 16:03 remaining in the game. The teams traded buckets for a while after that but the Lakers went on a mini-run to grow the lead to 61-45 with 6:42 to go and UC never could get over the hump.
In 16 minutes of court time in the second period, Hill had 10 points and three offensive rebounds. She finished the day with 12 points, five rebounds and a block.
Kandace Crittendon led LSSU with 17 points on 8-11 shooting. Stephanie Fisher hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 while April LaCross (14), Crishauna Harper (12) and Mackenzie Edwards (11) all scored in double figures.
Ricketts pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and the Arrows lost the battle of the boards by five, 36-31. UC also committed one more turnover than LSSU (16-15).
