Become a fan of Ursuline Basketball on FacebookCOLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ursuline College basketball team lost to Ohio Dominican University by a score of 96-65 on Friday (Nov. 14) night in what was the season opener for both teams. The two teams were meeting as part of the G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge.
Freshman guard Makayla Rosselot scored 15 points and her classmate Camryn Hill chipped in 10 in her collegiate debut. Senior forward Emma Ricketts was the only other Arrow to score in double figures as she poured in 11 points and grabbed 10 boards to pick up a double-double.
Madi Rittinger (24), Kacee Hockenberry (14), Darian Rose (14) and Melissa Scherpenberg (13) all scored in double figures to help the Panthers win their season opener.
UC won the battle of the boards 52-48 but the Arrows committed 30 turnovers, 17 more than the Panthers.
The Arrows found themselves down 48-30 at halftime after Ricketts and fellow senior Brianna Woods each scored seven points in the first 20 minutes but ODU opened the second half on a 24-6 run to widen the lead to 36. The lead got to as many as 41 after Micaela Liddane knocked down a three-ball with 7:45 remaining.
Ursuline will be back in action tomorrow (Nov. 15) against
Ashland University. That game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. in Columbus. The Eagles lost to
Cedarville University, 74-65, prior to the UC/ODU contest. Ashland returns four starters from last year's team that finished 18-9 overall and 16-6 in the GLIAC.
UC head coach Shannon Sword had two different stints as an assistant coach under Ashland's legendary head coach Sue Ramsey who is set to retire after this season.
