CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Ursuline College volleyball team, seeded third in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference postseason tournament, earned a hard-fought victory (33 tied scores) over sixth-seeded Alderson Broaddus University on Thursday (Nov. 13) evening.
UC won the first two sets, 27-25 and 25-22, before ABU took the third game 26-24. The Arrows responded with a huge 25-14 fourth set victory to clinch the match.
With the win, the Arrows improved to 18-8 overall and clinched a date with second-seeded
Ohio Valley University (23-9, 9-2 G-MAC) on Friday (Nov. 14) afternoon. That semifinal match will start at 4:00 p.m. and will be covered with
free live stats and video.
The Arrows and Fighting Scots split their two meetings during the regular season with the road team winning both times.
UC beat OVU by a score of 3-1 in Vienna on Sep. 27 but
the Fighting Scots avenged that loss with a 3-2 win at Hathaway Brown on Oct. 10.
Junior Abbie Fabo and sophomores Emily Adkinson and Makayla Windau all contributed a team-high 12 kills on Thursday night. Junior Elise Harcek had six kills, as did senior setter Molly Hilfinger.
Hilfinger,
who was named first team all-conference prior to the match, dished out 37 assists and chipped in nine digs.
Freshman Courtney Burns had four kills and sophomore Sammi Marcum was credited with one to go along with her 12 digs.
Fabo led the team with 19 digs to pick up her 10th double-double of the season.
Caitlin Cain had a match-high 16 kills for the Battlers and her teammate Megan Christmann had 15. Kayla Peterson was credited with 46 assists and seven digs.
Lauren Hogan led ABU with 19 digs and Cain had 15.
