Follow Ursuline Athletics on FacebookSHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Ursuline College volleyball team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday night (Oct. 28) with a three-set victory over Bluefield State College.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-13 and 25-19.
The Arrows, who had lost three of their last four matches entering Tuesday, improved to 15-6 overall while Bluefield State dropped to 12-15 overall (5-10 against Division II opponents).
Junior Abbie Fabo led Ursuline with 10 kills and she added eight digs, the second most on the team behind classmate Jaclyn Brandt's nine. Fellow junior Elise Harcek had nine kills and zero errors in 12 total attacks to finish with a .750 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Makayla Windau chipped in eight kills and freshman Courtney Burns, sophomore Emily Adkinson and senior Molly Hilfinger were all credited with three. Hilfinger also dished out 29 assists.
Bluefield State's Brittney Deveaux had a match-high 12 kills in the losing effort. Other statistical leaders included Nikolina Nikolic with 25 assists and Sashane Watson with 11 digs.
The match was never really in question with UC jumping out in front and never relinquishing the lead in both the first and second sets. The third set saw four ties and two lead changes before the arrows pulled away for good.
Ursuline will host
Cedarville University (16-12, 8-1 G-MAC), the team currently at the top of the
Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings, on Friday (Oct. 31) night at
Hathaway Brown School's Corrigan-Daniels Athletic Center. That match starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be covered with
free live stats and
free live audio.
Hilfinger and Brittany Kempf, Ursuline's two seniors, will be honored as part of 'Senior Night' festivities prior to the start of the match.
