Follow Ursuline Athletics on FacebookPHILIPPI, W. Va. - The Ursuline College volleyball team beat Alderson Broaddus University in four sets on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon.
UC won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-18, before ABU took the third set, 25-21. UC rebounded with a 25-15 fourth set victory to take the match and get back on the road with a record of 14-5 overall and 6-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
The Battlers, who entered Saturday on a two-match winning streak, are now 7-16 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
It was a total team effort on Saturday as five different Arrows were credited with a team-high six kills: freshman Courtney Burns, sophomores Emily Adkinson and Makayla Windau and juniors Abbie Fabo and Elise Harcek.
Sophomore Sammi Marcum was credited with two kills, as was senior setter Molly Hilfinger who also handed out 26 assists.
Windau anchored the defense with 18 digs while junior libero Jaclyn Brandt and Hilfinger both chipped in 14. Adkinson led the charge at the net with three solo blocks which were part of UC's eight as a team.
ABU's Caitlin Cain had a match-high 10 kills, most of which were set up by Lauren Rogers (27 assists) and Kayla Peterson (19 assists).
Four different Battlers reached double figures in digs, starting with Lauren Hogan (38).
Ursuline will return to Northeast Ohio to begin a four-match homestand that starts with
Urbana University on Tuesday (Oct. 21). That match, which is being held at
Hathaway Brown School's Corrigan-Daniels Athletic Center, starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be covered with
free live stats and
free live audio.
