VOLLEYBALL: Ursuline Falls to Davis & Elkins in Five-Set Thriller

ELKINS, W. Va. - For the first time this season, the Ursuline College volleyball team has dropped two straight matches. UC came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision at Davis & Elkins College on Friday (Oct. 17) afternoon.

The Arrows dropped the first set 25-16 before taking the next two, 25-20 and 25-12, to take a 2-1 lead. The Senators stormed back and won the fourth set, which was tied at five different times, 25-22 before taking the deciding set by a score of 15-12.

Ursuline is now 13-5 overall and 5-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while Davis & Elkins is 6-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Sophomore Makayla Windau led Ursuline with 13 kills and 17 digs to pick up her fifth double-double of the year. Junior Abbie Fabo 12 kills and 11 digs to notch her sixth double-double of 2014. Both Windau and Fabo were accountable for 15.5 points.

Senior setter Molly Hilfinger stuffed the stat sheet with 39 assists, eight digs and four kills.

Junior Elise Harcek and sophomore Emily Adkinson combined for 16 kills and five blocking assists. Junior Sabrina Kinney and sophomore Sammi Marcum were each credited with nine digs and junior Jaclyn Brandt had six.

D&E's Alexis Mourier had a great afternoon that included 24 kills, 10 digs and 1.5 blocks, totaling 27 points. Elizabeth Estes had 13 kills and Anna Gallup chipped in 10.

Zoe Craig (25 assists/15 digs), Haylee Murray (16 assists/13 digs) and Michaela Touchet (10 assists/17 digs) all recorded double-doubles in the winning effort.

The Arrows will stay in the state of West Virginia for a match on Saturday (Oct. 18) against Alderson Broaddus University that will start at 11:00 a.m. These two teams met on Oct. 3 and the Arrows won, 3-2.
