UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – All five Ursuline starters scored in double figures but it wasn't enough as Cedarville University outlasted the Arrows 90-78 in UC's first game since Dec. 21.
Shannon Sword's team has now lost three straight and sits at 5-7 overall and 1-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. After dropping five straight, Cedarville has won back-to-back games to equal Ursuline's 5-7 record. The Yellow Jackets, picked to finish third in the G-MAC Preseason Poll, are now 2-1 in the conference.
Freshman wing Tajanee Wells led Ursuline with 19 points and junior forward Emma Ricketts added 15. Freshmen guards Jenny Grigsby and Erica Huber each scored 12 and their junior backcourt mate Brianna Woods finished with 12.
Rookie Laney Lewis and senior Natalie Cook both hit a bucket off the bench but as a team, the Arrows shot just 38 percent (27-71) from the field.
Cedarville received a stellar effort from 5-foot-4 senior guard Kayla Jenerette. She hit five three-pointers and scored a season-high 26 points on 9-12 shooting. She also added seven assists, one shy of the totals produced by her teammate Raegan Ryan and UC's Huber.
Deborah Gordon had a great night for the Yellow Jackets as she finished with 17 points and eight boards. Senior post Danielle Spiliotis was tough to handle inside, scoring eight points and pulling down nine rebounds in her 19 minutes of action.
Cedarville led by 15 at halftime, 43-28, and grew its lead to as many as 19 but UC got within nine at 81-72 with 2:38 remaining. The Arrows never could dig themselves out of the early hole.
