Box Score

VIENNA, W. Va. – In the first 38 games of the Shannon Sword era, Ursuline College never scored 90 points. After Thursday's (Jan. 16) 90-71 win at Ohio Valley University, the Arrows have scored 90 in back-to-back games, both of which were conference wins.

With wins against Central State University last Saturday (Jan. 11) and Ohio Valley tonight, the Arrows have evened their record at 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. OVU slips to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Sword's starting five was huge on Thursday, scoring 84 of the team's 90 points. Freshman wing Tajanee Wells scored a career-high 31 points, 10 more than she had in any of her first 13 collegiate games. She was an efficient 11-16 (68.7 percent) from the field, including 3-5 from beyond the arc, and drilled all six of her free throw attempts.

Freshman lead guard Erica Huber also had a huge night with a career-high 24 points, one more than she scored against Saint Joseph's College on Dec. 17, 2013. In addition to the 24 points, the Anna High School product pulled down seven boards and dished out seven assists.

Junior forward Emma Ricketts (17) and freshman guard Jenny Grigsby (10) also scored in double figures while the other starting guard, junior Brianna Woods, finished with two. Senior forward Natalie Cook added four points off the bench and sophomore reserve guard Autumn Jones hit her first bucket of the season in her third game since returning from a back injury.

Shelby Way led OVU with 16 points but no other Pioneer scored in double figures. It was a tough shooting night for David Wadlington's team as it hit just 27 of 76 (35.5 percent) shots.

Ursuline was 29-55 (52.7 percent) for the game and hit 82.1 percent of its free throws (23-28). The Arrows also connected on nine of 16 (56.3 percent) three-point attempts.
OVU won the battle of the boards by six (44-38) and committed one less turnover than UC (19-18) but the Arrows sharpshooting propelled them to victory.

The Arrows led the game by one, 42-41 at halftime, but dominated the second half 48-30 to pull away for the 19-point victory. Ursuline held Way scoreless in the final 20 minutes and she misfired on all five of her field goal attempts. Sword's club didn't give OVU much of a chance at a comeback by going 13-13 at the free throw line in the second period.

On Saturday (Jan. 18), Ursuline will look to win its third straight conference game against Salem International University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be covered with free live video and free live stats, available by clicking here.
