Match Results vs. Geneva College
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – After losing to Geneva College in a rain-shortened affair last week, the Arrows pushed the Golden Tornadoes to the brink on Monday but ultimately came up short, dropping the match 5-4.
The Arrows are now 1-7 overall. Geneva is a Division III school so tennis is classified as a fall sport and records are not kept during the spring portion of the season.
Ursuline took the first two singles spots, starting with senior Betsy Edwards who knocked off Geneva’s Julie Kline at first singles. Edwards took the first set 6-3 before dropping set number two, 7-5. She responded in a big way during the third set tiebreaker, coming out on top 10-5 to win her second match in her last three tries. Junior Alex Leister picked up her team-high fourth singles win, this time at second singles, when she disposed of Alyssa Kuhn (6-3, 6-0).
Geneva took the final four singles matches before UC won two of three in doubles.
Edwards teamed with her classmate Melissa Mihalek to defeat Jennifer Bullock and Samantha Jensen on an 8-3 count. Leister then paired with junior Ashley Reinhart for a victory at No. 2 doubles as the tandem beat Kline and Kuhn by a score of 8-4.
Leister and Reinhart have gone 3-1 in their last four doubles matches.
Ursuline is home for the final time this season on Wednesday (April 17). The Arrows will host
Malone University at 2:30 p.m.
