Ursuline Falls to Central State in G-MAC Championship Opener

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The 2012-13 season came to an end on Saturday (March 2) afternoon as fifth-seeded Ursuline was eliminated in the opening round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship by the No. 4 seed Central State University, 72-47.

The Arrows finish the season with a 4-22 record while Central State improved to 16-11 and earned the right to head to Nashville for Friday’s (March 8) G-MAC semifinal against regular season champion Trevecca Nazarene.

Sophomore point guard Brianna Woods led the Arrows with 17 points (which tied her career-high) on 7-18 shooting. She also handed out four assists to give her 137 this year, a total that established a new single season record. Her classmate Darria Baker chipped in 11 points and added three rebounds and two steals.

Senior Laura Campbell was held to six points in her final collegiate game. Nonetheless, she finished her career with 1,438 points, third most in program history. Her classmate Dee Erazo went out with a double-double effort of 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

CSU’s Tanija Beasley - who posted 12 points and 11 boards in the Feb. 23 game between UC and CSU - recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while also adding four assists. Beasley’s frontcourt mate Tahja Walker flipped Erazo’s stat line and finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Veronne Clark was the other Marauder to reach double figures in scoring as she added 10.

Ursuline was outrebounded 52-36 on Saturday and didn’t help its cause with 17 of 62 (27.4 percent) shooting from the field. The Arrows connected on just four of their 24 three-point attempts, good for 16.7 percent.

Central State was 32 of 70 (45.7 percent) from the field and hit two of four three-point shots as a team.
