Box Score
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Junior guard Katie Cappello scored 18 points and handed out eight assists and got plenty of help from sophomore backcourt mate Darria Baker who chipped in 17 points but it wasn’t enough as Ursuline fell to the visitors from Central State University, 84-62.
The Arrows are now 3-16 overall and 0-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Central State picked up its first conference win of the season (1-3) and improved to 13-6 overall.
Cappello, who scored 19 points in last Thursday’s game against Wilberforce, was six of 13 from the field on Tuesday night. Baker struggled from behind the arc but was five of seven from inside of 21 feet and was perfect in her four free throw attempts.
Ursuline got a nice boost off the bench from freshman wing Andrea Hubbard. In 22 minutes of action, she tied her career-high with six points and pulled down a season-best seven boards.
Shakeira Lang was tough to handle for the Arrows. CSU’s leading scorer came into the game averaging a hair over 10 points per game but finished with a game-high 24 on Tuesday. She misfired on just one of her nine shots from the field and hit all four of her three-point attempts, including a heave from midcourt that went in off the glass to beat the first half buzzer. The Marauders took a 42-26 lead into the intermission and UC was never able to get within striking distance.
The Arrows were defeated on the boards, 47-45, but lost the turnover battle by 10. CSU’s Veronne Clark was credited with five steals while Jasmine Campbell and Tiffany Hudson each had four.
Ursuline concludes its brief two-game homestand on Saturday (Feb. 9) when
Urbana University visits for a 2:00 p.m. game. The Blue Knights beat Ursuline 77-56 in the first meeting this season, held in Urbana on Jan. 8.
Urbana is 10-13 overall and 3-1 in the G-MAC and will come to town after a huge win over conference-leading Trevecca Nazarene University last Saturday.
