Box Score vs. St. Augustine's / Box Score vs. West Virginia State
INSTITUTE, W. VA. – The Ursuline College basketball team came up empty at West Virginia State University's Toys for Tots Tournament this weekend. The Arrows lost to St. Augustine's University 74-65 on Friday (Dec. 20) night before falling to the host Yellow Jackets, 93-76, in Saturday's (Dec. 21) consolation game.
Shannon Sword's team finishes the 2013 calendar year at 5-6 overall.
Junior forward Emma Ricketts was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She had 16 points and four boards against St. Augustine's and came back Saturday with 20 points and 10 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season.
On Saturday, junior Brianna Woods scored a career-high 20 points, three points better than her previous best effort. She was 10-15 at the free throw line and added a season-high seven assists.
Freshman Tajanee Wells averaged nine points and seven rebounds this weekend. She pulled down 10 rebounds on Friday night to reach double figures for the first time in her young career.
In two games, UC was outrebounded 95-77 and committed eight more turnovers (46-38) than the opposition. The Arrows did block 14 shots this weekend with freshman Jenny Grigsby (five) and senior Natalie Cook (four) leading the way.
