Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Tajanee Wells, a Columbus native, scored a career-high 17 points but Ursuline College fell to host Ohio Dominican University, 77-68, on Saturday (Nov. 23) afternoon.

The Arrows are now 2-2 overall while the Panthers improve to 2-0 after beating Cedarville University of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference by a point last Saturday (Nov. 16).

Both teams put 39 points on the scoreboard in the first half but ODU won the second period by nine to decide the final margin. ODU's Lauren Bates hit a jumper to make it a 41-41 game with 17:52 remaining before the Panthers went on a 22-8 run to pull away for good.

UC shot better from the field than ODU but the home team had 20 more attempts. Shannon Sword's team committed just five more turnovers than the opposition (25-20) but the Panthers grabbed 20 offensive rebounds while the Arrows had seven.

In addition to the 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds from Wells, junior Emma Ricketts (14) and freshman Jenny Grigsby (11) also scored in double figures. Rookie Erica Huber chipped in nine points and six rebounds.

Ricketts also had six rebounds in her first career start.

Ohio Dominican received 55 points from its bench brigade and Ursuline got 17 from its second unit. Senior Katie Cappello was the top scorer off the bench with her eight points, one more than freshman Laney Lewis, and her classmate Natalie Cook hit a pair of free throws.

Tori Beth Leader led all scorers with 19 points off the bench. Starting guard Rachael Torey hit two of her five field goal attempts but was 7-9 at the charity stripe to finish with 12 points.

When all was said and done, ODU outrebounded UC 43-32.

Ursuline will conclude its three-game road trip on Wednesday (Nov. 27) with a 6:00 p.m. game against Malone University. The Malone Sports Information Department will provide free live stats and Max Radigan will call the action live on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
