OWENSBORO, Ky. – The old adage in sports is that it's hard to beat a team three times in one season. Unfortunately for the Ursuline College volleyball team, that old saying rang true on Thursday (Nov. 21) night in the opening round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship. After beating Trevecca Nazarene University twice during the regular season, the Arrows lost to the Trojans in three sets on Thursday.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17.
Donna Day's team finishes the season at 19-17 overall, a 12-win improvement from last season. Trevecca Nazarene improves to 17-14 overall and advances to take on regular season champion
Kentucky Wesleyan College in the second semifinal on Friday (Nov. 22) night.
TNU hit .308 on Thursday night while UC came in at .083. The Trojans had 58 total kills, 32 more than the Arrows.
Freshman Makayla Windau led the charge with eight kills and 14 digs. Senior Alex Leister chipped in five kills and added a team-high 18 digs. Windau, Leister and sophomore Elise Harcek (seven kills) were set up by junior setter Molly Hilfinger who dished out 22 assists.
Kristen Johnson had a triple-double effort for TNU as she finished with 18 kills, 30 assists and 12 digs. Katelyn Atkinson had 13 kills and 12 digs while Loren Bennett contributed nine kills and 18 digs.
