SYLVANIA, Ohio – Ursuline College shot 58.6 percent from the field in the second half and outscored Lourdes University by 12 over the final 20 minutes, 46-34, on its way to a 75-59 victory at the Tam-o-Shanter on Tuesday (Nov. 19) night.
The Arrows are now 2-1 overall while Lourdes slips to 2-3.
UC led 29-25 at halftime thanks to 10 points off the bench from junior Emma Ricketts. The transfer from Owens Community College hit four of her five field goal attempts in the first half and freshman Tajanee Wells chipped in seven points and pulled down six rebounds in the opening period.
The two teams went back and forth in the opening minutes of the second half and Lourdes got within three at 42-39 after Tiffany Scott knocked down a three-pointer. Shannon Sword's team responded by going on a 20-3 run that was capped off by a steal and transition bucket by junior guard Brianna Woods to widen the lead to 20.
Ursuline led by as many as 22 after freshman Jenny Grigsby hit a pair of free throws to make it a 71-49 game with 2:33 remaining. After the 20-3 UC run, Lourdes never got closer than 12.
Ricketts finished with a game-high 17 points on 7-10 shooting in 24 minutes of action. Wells contributed 15 points and seven boards and five other UC players scored at least six points in what was a total team effort.
Lourdes was led by 12 points from Tarynn Hampton and 11 from Lauren Tilden. The Gray Wolves won the battle of the boards by four, 43-39, but shot just 21-62 (33.9 percent) from the field.
UC hit 29 of its 62 (46.8 percent) field goal attempts, including six of 14 (42.9 percent) from behind the arc.
Ursuline will continue its three-game road swing with a 2:00 p.m. game at
Ohio Dominican University on Saturday (Nov. 23). Please note the time change as the game was bumped up from a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
