SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ursuline College volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the guests from Oberlin College in five sets on Wednesday (Oct. 23) night.
The Yeowomen took the hard-fought first set 28-26 before the Arrows tied things up with a 25-15 victory in the second set. Oberlin had its way with Ursuline in the third frame (25-7) to put the Arrows on the brink of elimination but Donna Day's team battled back to win the last two games, 25-20 and 15-11.
With the win, the Arrows evened their record at 12-12 overall while the Yeowomen, now losers in four straight matches, are 8-15.
Freshman Emily Adkinson had a team-high 10 kills and just three miscues in 16 chances to finish with a .438 attack percentage. It was the 10th time this season that she hit .400+ and the 10 kills tied her career high, equaling the mark she set against Bloomfield College on Sep. 14.
Adkinson's classmate Makayla Windau got into the act with nine kills, the same number turned in by senior Alex Leister. As a team, Ursuline hit just .095, a shade under Oberlin's .106.
Leister was credited with a team-high 19 digs, her highest output of the season. Junior Molly Hilfinger got everyone in the right places and handed out 29 assists while redshirt sophomore Kelley Plas and freshman Meghanne Daley also saw time as the UC setter.
Oberlin was led by Christine Antonsen's 16 kills while rookie Hannah Tyburski chipped in 12. Setter Meredith Leung had 36 assists to go with 15 digs while Molly Powers (19 digs) and Ave Spencer (13 digs) were also defensive stalwarts.
