SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – For the second consecutive day, the Ursuline College volleyball team was swept by a conference opponent from the state of West Virginia. After Friday's 3-0 loss to Alderson Broaddus University, Davis & Elkins College got the better of the Arrows on Saturday (Oct. 12) afternoon.
The Arrows pushed the Senators to the brink in the first set before falling 26-24. D&E won the next two stanzas 25-22 and 25-19.
With the loss, the Arrows are 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Davis & Elkins will return to Elkins, W. Va., with an overall record of 5-14 and an identical 2-4 record in conference play.
Senior Alex Leister finished with a match-high 12 kills and just three errors in 21 total attacks to finish the day with a .429 hitting percentage. Freshman Makayla Windau added nine kills and her classmate Emily Adkinson added five kills to go with a solo block.
Junior setter Molly Hilfinger was credited with 28 assists and a team-high 10 digs in the losing effort.
For D&E, five players had at least six kills, led by Alexis Mourier's 10. Alicia Stokes had 21 assists, 10 more than Haylee Murray, and Kelsey Richards paced the defense with 14 digs.
The Arrows are now off to the Golden State for four matches in four days, starting with Monday's (Oct. 14) match against Mills College. Ursuline will return home with a conference match against Ohio Valley University on Saturday (Oct. 19).
