Urbana University Dual Meet Results

URBANA, Ohio – The day started with a victory in the 200 medley relay and individual races finished with a win from junior Allie Butta but it wasn’t enough as Ursuline fell to host Urbana University, 104-51, on Friday afternoon at the Blue Knight Aquatics Center.

The Arrows slipped to 1-7 overall while the Blue Knights jumped to 5-8.

In the opening race, the quartet of senior Kristina Valentic, Butta, junior Danielle Szczypkowski and freshman Kaylee Ruiz bested Urbana’s 200 medley relay group by more than eight seconds. UC finished in 2:10.89 and Urbana touched the wall at the 2:19.17 mark.

Urbana won the next eight individual races to pick up 72 points on first place finishes alone before Butta snapped the streak with a victory in the 100 breast. She turned in a 1:17.48 and the next closest competitor – UU’s Jacqueline Rex – finished in 1:22.37.

The dual concluded with Urbana winning the 200 free relay in 2:08.37.

Junior Lauren Sharnsky had a solid performance in defeat. She swam a 12:42.48 in the 1,000 free, an improvement from what was her top time of 13:03.26 set in the middle of December. She also shaved exactly 15 seconds off her season-best 500 free time on Friday when she recorded a 6:20.78.

The Arrows visit Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio next Friday (Jan. 18) at 6:00 p.m. in what will be the final dual meet of the 2012-13 season. The year will culminate at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships in the middle of February.
