Volleyball Picks Up First Win of the Season

Box Score vs. Bluefield College / Box Score vs. Oakland City University

Owensboro, Ky. ­– The Ursuline volleyball team got in the left column with a victory over Bluefield College before dropping the final match of the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic to Oakland City Univeristy.

At the conclusion of both matches, the Arrows are now 1-8.

Ursuline won the first set 25-20 over Bluefield before the Rams evened the score with a 26-24 win in the second set. The Arrows responded with wins in the third (25-19) and fourth (25-18) sets to pick up the victory.

Against Oakland City, roles were reversed as the Arrows fell down a set before taking the second game, 25-23. The Mighty Oaks won the third set, 25-19, and clinched the win with a 25-23 victory in set number four.

Juniors Alex Leister (32) and Maureen Kelly (29) combined for 61 kills on the day, most of which were assited by Ashley Reinhart who had 75 assists on Saturday.

Defensively, Leister had 55 digs and sophomore Kelly Stenger had 47 while Kelly chipped in 27 and freshman Jaclyn Brandt had 23.

The Arrows will travel to take on Edinboro University on Tuesday (Sep. 11) night. It will be the ninth straight match Ursuline plays away from home before finally getting to play in front of the home crowd next Saturday, Sep. 15.
