Mini-Runs Push Tiffin Past Ursuline

Tiffin, Ohio ­– The Ursuline volleyball team dropped its match against Tiffin University on Tuesday (Sept. 4) night, falling in three sets to the host Dragons.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-18 and 25-11.

With the loss, the Arrows slid to 0-5 on the young year while Tiffin improved to 3-2.

The two teams were tied at five early in the first set until the Dragons rattled off five consecutive points during a stretch in which they won 10 of 11 points to widen the gap.

Set two saw Ursuline take a 7-6 lead early on but Tiffin had a pair of four-point runs that enabled the home team to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, Tiffin jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Arrows won three of the next five points to cut the deficit to three at 8-3. The Dragons pieced together a five-point run to grow the lead to 10 points and went on to win the set 25-11.

Juniors Alex Leister and Maureen Kelly each had a team-high five kills while transfer Heidi Mervar had four and freshman Elise Harcek chipped in three. Of the 20 team kills, 11 came on assists from sophomore Kelley Plas and four more came from junior Ashley Reinhart.

Defensively, Leister had 10 kills and sophomore Kelly Stenger had eight.

Tiffin's Danielle McQuade led all players with 17 kills.
 
The Arrows return to action on Friday (Sept. 7) at the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic in Owensboro, Ky. Ursuline opens with the host Panthers at 11 a.m. and finishes day one with Glenville State College at 3:30 p.m. The tournament will conclude on day two with the Arrows taking on Bluefield College at 12:15 p.m. and Oakland City University at 7:00 p.m.
