PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – After 10 matches on the road, the Ursuline volleyball team finally got to play in front of the home fans on Saturday. Donna Day’s team gave the spectators much to cheer about but was on the wrong end in both of its matches, falling to LeMoyne College in three sets and coming up short against Millersville University in a match that needed five sets to determine a winner.
LeMoyne College beat the Arrows 25-21, 25-15 and 25-21. The Dolphins then defeated Millersville in four sets before the final match of the day between Ursuline and Millersville.
The Marauders won the first two sets – 25-18 and 25-22 – to put the Arrows on the brink of defeat. The resilient Ursuline squad fought for a 30-28 victory in the third set and won another close set, 25-22, to force the deciding fifth set.
Millersville jumped out to an early lead and held on, 15-8, to take the match.
Junior Alex Lesiter combined for 31 kills on the day while her classmate Maureen Kelly had 17. Ursuline also got nine kills from junior Heidi Mervar, seven from Ashley Reinhart and six from freshman Elise Harcek.
