Bob Fritz has been named the new head bowling coach at Ursuline College, Athletic Director Cindy McKnight announced. Fritz brings 10 years of head coaching experience with him to Pepper Pike, having spent the past four seasons at Uniontown Lake High School.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work at Ursuline College,” Fritz said. “I know I can do the job. I’ve been in bowling for 40 years and coached it for 10 seasons. It’s a sport I’m very passionate about and my hope is that my passion is contagious and that leads to the program continuing to head in the right direction.”

He spent six years coaching at Akron’s Ellet High School, helping the men’s team to a fourth place finish in the state in 2001. When his daughter, Stephanie, started at Ellet, Fritz started the women’s team in time for the 2002-03 season.

After capturing four Greater Akron High School Bowling Conference titles, Fritz left the United States to coach baseball for two years in Germany before returning to Uniontown Lake in 2008.

“We’re excited to add Bob to our staff,” McKnight said. “At Ellet, he started the women’s program and saw the team become competitive. At Ursuline, we’re heading into our fourth season and our hope is that he can continue to develop the program.”

Fritz has five sanctioned 300s and a 777 series to his name.

While coaching at Ursuline, Fritz will continue to work as a scout in the Cincinnati Reds organization – a job he has held for 14 years after spending two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
