Despite 23 points from Laura Campbell, the Arrows dropped their final regular-season contest of the year to Salem International at home, 62-54. Ursuline (6-20) held the 28-24 halftime lead, but in the second half Salem (5-23) upped the pressure and played very aggressive forcing 26 turnovers in the game and winning the second half by 12 points to take home the victory.
Ursuline out-rebounded Salem 51 to 39 and out-shot them from long range and the free-throw line. However, an aggressive Tiger team and a low number of fouls called led to a big surge by Salem to take the lead for good early in the second half. Katie Cappello couldn't get a call, and finished 0-9 from the field with only six attempts from the free throw line.
Brooke Trauthwein scored 11 points on three 3-pointers, and Tyler Gassett scored 10 points. It was Gassett's six game scoring in double-figures on the season. For Trauthwein the three long range shots pushed her into sixth place all-time for single-season three-pointers, as she finishes the season with 60.
Brianna Woods, who had three assists, finished the season with a team single-season record of 129 assists. Cappello finished the season with 408 points, which is fifth all-time for a single season and she now has 562 career points, which stands eighth all-time. Campbell, who just passed the 1,000 point mark, stands in fourth place all-time with 1,042 points.
The Arrows will now wait and see who they will take on in the first round of the Ohio Independent Championship Tournament, which starts Tuesday, February 28 at the home of the higher seeded team.
