Box Score

VIENNA, W. Va. – Senior Laura Campbell hit 10 three-pointers and scored an Ursuline College single game record 38 points as the Arrows went on the road and knocked off Ohio Valley University, 82-64.

By hitting 10 three-pointers, she came up one shy of the school record set by Whitney (Blackburn) Waseity against Oberlin College on Dec. 11, 2008. Campbell broke her own school record of 37 points in a single game, a feat she accomplished last year against Central State University.

It was Ursuline’s first win of the 2012-13 season and the first in the head coaching career of Shannon Sword. The Arrows are now 1-6 overall while Ohio Valley slipped to 0-5.

Campbell - who missed a double-double by just one rebound - scored 21 points in the first half to stake the Arrows to a 36-28 lead. Playing with just six healthy bodies due to injuries, Sword’s squad turned it up in the second half and outscored the Fighting Scots by 10 points in the second stanza. Junior guard Katie Cappello returned from an illness and scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half, pairing that output with a career-high seven assists.

The Arrows got a big boost from senior forward Dee Erazo who notched her first career double-double. She set career-highs with 14 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore point guard Brianna Woods scored nine points and dished out four helpers.

Junior forward Natalie Cook scored four points and grabbed eight rebounds while freshman Autumn Jones converted both of her free throw attempts and finished with two points. She fought off back pain to play 31 precious minutes to help her team secure the victory.

Shelby Way led Ohio Valley with 16 points while Kayla Parsley (11) and Tara Benedict (10) each reached double figures in rebounds.

In what was clearly Ursuline’s best effort of the season, the Arrows shot a season-high 50.9 percent (27-53) from the field while limiting the Fighting Scots to 32.4 percent (23-71) shooting, aided by the fact Ohio Valley misfired on 21 of its 27 three-point attempts. Ursuline committed 11 turnovers and forced 10 and the two teams were deadlocked on the boards with 41 each.

The 82 points were the most since a 97-point outburst last season against Lourdes College (Nov. 22, 2011) while the .800 (12-15) shooting from behind the arc established a new school record.

After playing six straight games away from the friendly confines of the Matthew J. O’Brien Athletic Center, the Arrows will finally return home on Saturday (Dec. 8) against Carlow University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and Buffalo Wild Wings will be hand for ‘Wing Day’ to distribute free samples beginning at 1:30 p.m.
