PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Four Arrows scored in double figures but it wasn’t enough as Ursuline fell to Clarion, 90-66, on Saturday (Dec. 15) afternoon. The loss ended UC’s two-game winning streak and dropped the club to 2-7 overall while Clarion improved to 4-4.
Junior Katie Cappello led Ursuline with 17 points while senior Laura Campbell and junior Natalie Cook each scored 14. Senior Dee Erazo had 12 points and nine rebounds and sophomore guard Brianna Woods chipped in nine points and nine assists.
Both teams grabbed 31 rebounds and despite Ursuline committing seven more turnovers than the Golden Eagles, Clarion only attempted six more shots than UC. Clarion shot 32-63 (50.8 percent) from the field, a tad better than Ursuline’s 24-57 (42.1 percent) clip.
Ursuline turned it over 12 times as a team in the first half and was behind 38-26 at the break despite 11 points from Campbell. The reigning G-MAC ‘Athlete of the Week’ was held to three points in the second period but Cappello slashed her way to 12 second half points, eight of which came at the free throw line.
Clarion cranked it up a notch in the second stanza and shot 61.3 percent (19-31) the field, including 54.5 percent (6-11) from three-point range. The Golden Eagles outscored the Arrows by 12, 52-40, in the final 20 minutes.
