PAINESVILLE, Ohio – It was just one of those nights for the Ursuline College basketball team as the short-handed Arrows fell to Lake Erie College, 82-41, on Monday (Nov. 26) night. UC – playing without junior all-everything performer Katie Cappello who missed the game due to illness – had trouble getting shots to fall. The Arrows shot 25.9 percent from the field while the Storm shot the rock at a 46.5 percent clip.
The loss was Ursuline’s fifth straight to start the season while Lake Erie won its second game of the young year and improved to 2-1 in the process.
Senior Laura Campbell hit three shots from behind the arc as part of her 11 first half points but the Arrows found themselves down 39-18 at the break. She chipped in six more points in the second frame but Lake Erie was simply too much.
Ursuline had six student-athletes step on the floor, all of whom logged at least 30 minutes of playing time. Campbell’s 17 points tied her season-high and marked the fifth straight game that she scored in double figures. So far this season, the senior from Toledo, Ohio is averaging 15.0 points per game.
After Campbell, junior Michele Hare finished with a season-high nine points while sophomore Brianna Woods contributed six points, four assists and four rebounds. Rookie Autumn Jones threw in a career-high five points and junior Natalie Cook scored four points to go with her five rebounds.
Lake Erie was led by Ashar Harris who finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Shelby Carpenter was the only other member of the Storm to score in double figures as Lake Erie spread out the scoring.
Ursuline lost the battle of the boards 54-31 and turned it over 25 times while forcing 17 Lake Erie miscues.
The Arrows are off tomorrow before jumping back into action on Wednesday (Nov. 28) against
Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Hawks are 3-0 and ranked No. 22 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.
