PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Sophomore Brianna Woods scored 12 points and senior Laura Campbell chipped in 11 but it wasn't enough as Ursuline College fell to Malone University, 52-37, in what was the season opener for both teams.
The Arrows got off to a slow start in the first half, shooting four of 24 from the field to find themselves down 28-15 at the break. Ursuline played a much better second half as the Pioneers won the period by just two points, 24-22.
Malone was led by 13 points from Selana Reale and a double-double effort from Logan Pastor (11 points and 10 boards).
Ursuline did a nice job of rebounding the basketball, especially on the offensive glass where they came away with nine rebounds. The Arrows grabbed 37 rebounds in total, three less than their opponent. Both Campbell and junior Natalie Cook were credited with 10 boards.
As is to be expected in the season opener, both teams were a bit sloppy with the ball. Ursuline committed 22 turnovers while Malone turned the ball over 20 times.
Next up for the Arrows is another member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference: the University of Findlay Oilers. The UF Sports Information Department will provide live stats, audio and video, all available for free by clicking
