Defiance Tri-Meet Results
DEFIANCE, Ohio – After starting the 2012-13 season with an impressive showing at the Pitt-Bradford Panther Relays last Saturday (Oct. 20), the Ursuline College swimming and diving team opened the dual meet portion of its schedule with a pair of losses to Defiance College and Urbana University on Saturday (Oct. 27).
Defiance defeated Ursuline 45-34 while the Arrows fell to the Blue Knights by a score of 66-23.
Freshman Danielle Reed picked up the lone title for the Arrows as she won the 50 free in 26.31, besting Defiance’s Emilee Boleyn by .09. Reed’s classmate Kaylee Ruiz placed fifth in the race with a time of 30.14 and later was fifth in the 500 free (7:14.90).
Fellow rookie Ali Salyers was the runner-up in a hotly-contested 100 free race. Urbana’s Breanna Schroeder won the event with a time of 57.54 while Salyers touched in 57.72. Defiance’s Savannah Marquez was third (1:02.93) and finished just ahead of UC junior Danielle Szczypkowski who covered the distance in 1:04.19.
Salyers also turned in a third place finish in the 100 back with her time of 1:11.83, two spots ahead of senior Kristina Valentic who swam a 1:17.50.
The other standout performance came from junior Allie Butta as she placed second in the 100 breast event with a time of 1:16.50.
In relay events, the Ursuline 200 medley quartet took second with a time of 2:01.29 while the 200 free group placed third (1:55.76).
The Arrows are idle from competition until Nov. 9 when they take on
Hiram College at 6:00 p.m.
