Arrows Show Improvement in Loss to Cedarville

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio ­– The Ursuline College volleyball team went down fighting in a 3-1 loss to visiting Cedarville University on Tuesday (Oct. 23) night. The Arrows took the first set from the Yellow Jackets, 25-22, but dropped the next three: 25-17, 25-11 and 25-21.

It was a far cry from Cedarville’s three-set victory back on Sep. 25.

With the loss, the Arrows are now 4-26 overall and 2-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Cedarville improved to 23-5 overall and 4-0 in the G-MAC.

Junior Alex Leister was the only Arrow to reach double-digits in kills as she slammed home 10 balls. Leister’s classmate Maureen Kelly added seven kills while sophomore Brittany Kempf chipped in five while hitting at a .364 clip.

The UC hitters were setup by junior setter Ashley Reinhart who dished out 22 assists while the defense was led by 17 kills from Leister and 15 more from sophomore libero Kelly Stenger.

Cedarville was aided by Hannah Wagner and her 19 kills. Maddie Anderson (36) and Erica Bartholomew (13) combined for 49 assists while Anderson led her club with 24 digs.

Ursuline has a chance to bounce back on Thursday (Oct. 25) night against Kentucky State University. The Thorobreds entered tonight's match against St. Catharine College with a 12-19 record and a six-match losing streak.
