PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – After winning two of their last three matches by way of 3-0 shutouts, the Ursuline College volleyball team was on the wrong end of a sweep on Tuesday (Oct. 16) night as visiting Tiffin University knocked off the Arrows 3-0. Set scores were 29-27, 25-15, 25-20.
Ursuline is now 4-25 overall while Tiffin beat UC for the second time this season and improved to 7-12 overall.
In the first set, the host Arrows found themselves behind 20-14 and forced head coach Donna Day to call a timeout. After that point, Ursuline went on a 10-2 run to take the lead at 24-22. Ursuline was first to both the 25th and 27th points but Tiffin took the hotly-contested first game.
Ursuline bounced back in the second set and took a 10-8 lead until the Dragons put together a 17-5 run to close out the game. With their backs against the wall, UC fell behind 3-2 in the third set and never could climb back up the hill.
After hitting at a .302 clip in the win over Central State University on Monday (Oct. 15), Ursuline dipped to .115 against the Dragons. The Arrows totaled 29 kills, 12 of which were credited to junior Alex Leister. Eight more kills came from junior Maureen Kelly while sophomore Brittany Kempf chipped in four on just eight attacks. Junior setter Ashley Reinhart had 24 assists.
Five different Dragons recorded at least seven kills, led by Danielle McQuade’s match-high of 14. As a team, Tiffin had 52 kills and 43 were assisted by setter Tiffany Buchinger.
UC sophomore libero Kelly Stenger had a team-high 20 digs while Leister pitched in 13 scoops.
