The Ursuline College basketball team falls to 3-5 on the young season, following a tough played 83-71 loss at Division II power, Fairmont State on Tuesday afternoon. Ursuline trailed 44-40 late in the second half before a 20-9 run, pushed the Falcons lead out for good.
Jaylene Taylor led the game with 27 points, going 10-for-16 from the field, three short of her career high. She also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Taylor recorded both of UC's blocked shots and had a team-best three steals.
Katie Cappello chipped in 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, to go with five rebounds, while
Natalie Cook had 11 points, and
Laura Campbell joined them in double-figures with 10 points. The Arrows shot 50% for the game to keep up with Fairmont State, but it was not enough on Tuesday night.
Campbell, Cook, and Dee Erazo all had five rebounds as the Arrows out-rebounded the Falcons 15-11 on the offensive glass, and 36-29 overall.
Each team made 28 shots, but the difference came from long-range and the free throw line. For the first time this season, the Arrows did not make a three-point field goal, while Fairmont State had six. The Falcons also held an advantage at the free throw line of 21 (of 26) to 15 (of 24).
Ursuline will return home for a quick two-game homestand this weekend - Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10. On Friday, our friends at Buffalo Wild Wings will be handing out free wings prior to the game and as usually will hand out prizes to all fans in attendance if the Arrows can make six three-pointers in the Make Six, Get Six promotion.
