The Ursuline College basketball team improved to 3-4 on the season after a 60-54 road victory over Carlow University on Thursday night in Pittsburgh. The Arrows were guided by Jaylene Taylor's double-double, her second of the season, as she had a game-high 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Off the bench, Michele Hare had a season-best 15 points to go with six rebounds.
Brianna Woods also scored in double-figures with season and career-best 11 points to go with a season and career-high nine assists.
After a slow start to the game, in which Ursuline shot only 30% in the first half, Ursuline held a 26-21 halftime lead behind great defensive play and solid rebounding. The Arrows out-rebounded the Celtics 50-46 and out-shot them 45% to 39% in the second half.
UC did allow Carlow to stick around in the second half, winning the final 20 minutes by a slim one point margin, 34-33. The Arrows struggled from the free throw line, making only 4 of its 12 attempts in the second half. However, all four makes came in the last 18 seconds of the game to seal the victory.
Ursuline will continue its early season action on the road, playing at Fairmount State next Tuesday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the UC Sports Network.
