The Ursuline basketball team opened its home schedule in front of a packed house and took home the victory, 97-85 over Lourdes University (4-5) on Tuesday night, as the team heads into a short Thanksgiving break. The Arrows (2-3) were led by 24 points from
Katie Cappello and 21 points from
Brooke Trauthwein.
For Trauthwein, all 21 of her points came on seven three-pointers, which alone made the crowd a winner in the Buffalo Wild Wings make six three-pointers get six wings promotion that is running this season at Arrows home games.
Laura Campbell had 15 points, and
Darria Baker chipped in 13 points.
Even though the Arrows were out-rebounded 52-45 and 25-14 on the offensive glass, they were able to overcome it all by shooting 45% for the game and 51.6% in the second half alone, including 45% from long range.
On the boards,
Jaylene Taylor led the team with game-high 13 rebounds; she has now led the team in rebounding in all five of its games this season. Cappello played tremendous perimeter defense, recording five blocked shots from the outside, while tossing out three assist and capturing two steals.
Ursuline will return to action on the road next week at Carlow. The Arrows will next play at home on Friday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Houghton and Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. against Roberts Wesleyan.
