Ursuline earns first win behind 19 points from Campbell

The Ursuline basketball team continues to improve game-to-game, earning its first win after an 0-2 start to the season. On Thursday night, the Arrows defeated Geneva College (Pa.) on the road, 64-52 behind 19 points from Laura Campbell.

Jaylene Taylor and Brooke Trauthwein each had 12 points, while Taylor had a team-high eight rebounds and three blocked shots. The Arrows won almost every statistical category in the victory including making 26 field goals out of 55 attempts, while Geneva made only 20 out of 55. The big difference in the hustle categories came as Ursuline had four blocks to none for Geneva and 12 steals to seven for Geneva.

The only trouble for Ursuline came on the boards. Despite winning the overall rebounding battle 38 to 34, Geneva out-rebounded  Ursuline on the offensive rebounds 13-10 - and with the obvious size advantage the Arrows held, the rebounding stats should not have been so tight. Geneva has only one player listed over 5' 8", while Ursuline has eight players 5' 9" or taller.

With her 19 points in the Arrows win, Campbell has now scored over 700 career points in just over two seasons of action. She entered the season in seventh place all time with 677 points - and has added 26 points this season to improve to 703 career points. She still need 125 more points to catch Arrows Hall of Famer Jeri Bryant's sixth best career total of 828 points.

Ursuline will play one more road contest on Saturday at Ohio Dominican before it opens the home schedule next Tuesday against Lourdes College. Next Tuesday, Ursuline and Buffalo Wild Wings in Lyndhurst will team up to bring you free wings, shooting contests, and even more events during the home opener.
