The Ursuline Arrows swimming and diving team visited Defiance College on Saturday for a meet against the Yellow Jackets and the Alma College Scots of Alma, Michigan.
The meet was held at the Defiance YMCA and was the first ever home meet for the school, which began its swimming program this year. The Arrows recorded many personal bests, but lost 66-15 to Defiance and 60-20 to Alma.
Highlighting the afternoon for the Arrows, was
Kristina Valentic, who set a new school record in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 6:33.16, topping the mark set two years ago by Sarah Gajewski by more than 15 seconds.
Another great performance came from freshman
Kirsten Neal, who lowered her own personal-best in the 50-yard freestyle by seven seconds. Other strong showings came from sophomore
Allie Butta in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.26), and sophomore
Danielle Szczypkowski in the 50-yard freestyle (27.92).
The Arrows have a busy weekend coming up with meets at Hiram College on Friday and Malone University on Saturday. The Malone meet is a four-team Championship style meet, which will include Notre Dame College and Urbana University.
