The Ursuline College athletic department and Athletic Director Cindy McKnight announced the hiring of Bobby Irwin as the new head tennis coach effective this fall.
“I am thankful to Ms. McKnight and Ursuline College for the opportunity to lead the women’s tennis program,” said Irwin. “I am excited to meet our current student-athletes and begin building our team,” he added.
Irwin, who is a USPTA certified tennis professional, most recently has worked at Manchester High School near Akron as both the Girls and Boys Varsity tennis coach. Under his leadership, the girls program that began with eight players in 2015 increased to 24 teams by 2017 in which they finished 11-9.
Prior to Manchester, Irwin worked as the JV Boys tennis coach and Assistant varsity coach at Copley High School where he organized all the practices and matches for the team.
Irwin serves as the Director of Tennis/Head Tennis professional at Congress Lakes Club in Hartville, Ohio where he worked with over 80 youth and adult tennis players on a variety of different aspects of the game.
He also works as a tennis instructor for the Lakewood Racquet Club where he was in charge of clinics and private lessons from all ages.
Irwin graduate d from Baldwin Wallace College where he was a double major in Business Management and Accounting. He was a member of the Yellow Jackets varsity tennis team and posted a perfect 16-0 singles record during the spring of his sophomore year.
He graduated as a member of the Honors Program and was a student mentor for the Honors Program. His efforts in the community and on the campus were recognized when he was selected for the Campus and Community Service award among all student-athletes.
Irwin will begin working with the program this fall in preparation for the 2019 season.
