Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College soccer team battled California (Pa.) to a 2-2 draw Tuesday in non-conference action.
California (14-1, 1-4-0 G-MAC) opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but the Arrows answered just before halftime. After earning a free kick, Shelby Nagy found the back of the net at 44:55 to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.
Ursuline (13-1, 0-2-0 G-MAC) held a 6-4 advantage in shots during the opening half.
The Arrows took their first lead of the match in the second half after California was issued a yellow card. Dora Pezlen provided the assist, setting up Loreley Maier, who beat the goalkeeper in the 67th minute to give Ursuline a 2-1 advantage.
The lead lasted just three minutes, however, as the Vulcans found the equalizer in the 69th minute.
California held the advantage in second-half shots, 10-7, and finished the match with a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Ursuline held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.
The match featured a physical battle, with the Arrows holding a 12-6 edge in fouls. Ursuline also received two yellow cards compared to one for California.
Mia Meyer and Maier led the Arrows with four shots apiece.
