Box Score Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline Soccer team opened the 2026 season with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Clarion on Thursday night.

The Arrows struck first in the 19th minute when freshman Fiona Rombach found the back of the net at 18:26. Rombach's goal marked an impressive start to her collegiate career, with fellow freshman Cloe Bengtson earning the assist.

Ursuline had an opportunity to extend its lead early in the second half when the Arrows were awarded a penalty kick in the 46th minute, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

Clarion answered at 57:30, converting a penalty kick to even the match. The Golden Eagles then took the lead at 71:11, scoring the eventual game-winner.

Ursuline was outshot 16-6 and faced a 7-1 disadvantage in corner kicks. Defensively, the Arrows held a 6-2 advantage in saves.

Rombach and Loreley Maier paced the Ursuline offense with two shots apiece.
