Arrows Deliver 2-0 Shutout Over Ohio Dominican

Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Ohio Dominican Thursday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.

The Arrows (3-7-1, 2-6-0 G-MAC) opened the scoring in the 28th minute. At 27:11, Brianna Sowul set up Maria Saavedra, who finished the opportunity with a shot past the Ohio Dominican goalkeeper to give Ursuline a 1-0 lead.

Ursuline doubled its advantage just 12 minutes later. At 39:08, a mistake on an Ohio Dominican (1-8-2, 0-6-2 G-MAC) free kick near the goal created an opportunity for Loreley Maier, who capitalized with a strike into the net to put the Arrows ahead 2-0 heading into halftime.

Ohio Dominican held a slim 5-4 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes, but Ursuline made the most of its scoring opportunities.

The Panthers continued to pressure the Arrows in the second half, holding a 7-5 edge in shots. Both teams received a yellow card, but neither side found the net as Ursuline maintained its two-goal cushion through the final whistle.

Ohio Dominican finished with a 12-9 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.

Saavedra, Maier, and Vanessa Baugatz each added two shots to UC's total.

The Arrows' defense stood firm, with goalkeeper Laetitia Scheunemann recording seven saves to secure her third shutout of the season.

Ursuline also controlled the corner-kick battle, finishing with an 8-3 advantage.

Up next: The Arrows return to the road Saturday to face Malone in Canton, Ohio, for a G-MAC matchup, kicking off at 1:00 p.m.
