Ursuline Secures Victory Over KWC

Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College soccer team secured a 2-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory over Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday afternoon.

The Arrows (2-6-1, 1-5-0 G-MAC) wasted little time finding the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. Brianna Sowul played the ball to Samantha Youngs, who fired a strike past the Kentucky Wesleyan goalkeeper to give Ursuline the early advantage.

Following the opening goal, both teams battled to create additional scoring opportunities. The Arrows held an 8-4 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes and carried their one-goal lead into halftime.

Ursuline continued to pressure the Panthers throughout the second half, but neither team could find the back of the net until late in the contest. In the 85th minute, Allie Rice delivered a pass to Fiona Rombach, who headed the ball into the net to extend the Arrows' lead to 2-0.

The Ursuline defense held strong over the final minutes to secure the shutout victory.

The Arrows finished with a 15-10 edge in shots and held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Vanessa Baugatz led Ursuline with five shots, while Mia Meyer added three. Youngs and Rombach each recorded two shots.

Laetitia Scheunemann anchored the Arrows' defensive effort with four saves while recording the clean sheet.

The match featured a physical battle, with Ursuline holding an 11-4 advantage in fouls. The Arrows also recorded two yellow cards.

Up next: Ursuline returns to action Saturday when the Arrows host Thomas More at noon in Pepper Pike. Prior to the match, Ursuline will celebrate Senior Day.
