Back-to-Back Sweeps for UC Softball

The Ursuline College softball team traveled to Lexington, KY to take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. The Arrows swept the Panthers 7-2 and 7-0 for two crucial GMAC wins.
 
The Arrows opened up game one setting the tone for the day with five runs right in the first inning. With hits from Sara Fessler, Tara Backherms and Kiley Gallagher to load the bases, Kristin Kopp singled to center field to earn two RBI's from Fessler and Backherms. Kat Ferretti tripled to right center directly after to send two more arrows running home. Off of a single from Devan Peterson that set Ferretti up for a run, the Arrows scored one more to bring the tally to 5-0.
 
At the top of the second, Fessler homered to center field to bring the score to 6-0. Both teams sat scoreless for the next two innings before Fessler tallied another RBI for the Arrows in the fifth from Madison Jakosh's run. The Panthers went on to add three runs to the board in the bottom of the fifth, finalizing the score at 7-3.
 
Nicole Rawlings (5-8) picked up the win for her four innings of work allowing five hits, three runs and three walks on five strikeouts. Kelsey Jakosh came in to finish up, pitching two innings and allowing just one hit and pitching one strikeout.
 
The win carried the Arrows into game two where they scored four runs at the top of the fourth. After a single to right field, Fessler scored the first run of game two on a throwing error by the third baseman. Backherms added in another unearned run from Kopp's single and Baratta added in a third run when Ferretti grounded out. Gallagher doubled to right field to earn an RBI on the Arrows fourth run from Kopp.
 
At the top of the second, Kopp tripled to right center to set herself up for a run when Ferretti singled to right field. The Arrows lead 5-0 before adding in another run at the top of the fourth. Fessler singled to center and stole second before Baratta singled to earn an RBI from Fessler's run.
 
With two scoreless innings before the seventh, the Arrows topped off their scoring with a run from pinch runner, Christina Dalton on Fessler's hit.
 
Tara Backherms (5-4) pitched the win for UC with her four innings of work, allowing just three hits and no runs with one strikeout. Ashlee Zientek picked up the save, pitching five strikeouts in her three innings.
 
The Arrows remain on the road for their final double-header of the season where they will take on Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at 12 and 2 pm CST.
