The Ursuline College softball team split a road doubleheader at Hillsdale College on Tuesday evening.

The Arrows dropped the opener 5-3 and won a wild second game 9-8 in eight innings to earn the split.

In game one, Hillsdale jumped in front with a five-run first inning before freshman
Nicole Rawlings came on in relief to toss 5 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing just three hits.

Ursuline's offense got on the board in the fourth inning when Rawlings reached on a fielder's choice following junior
Brooklyn Miller's single up the middle. Senior
Karlie Wilbur followed with a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to make it 5-2.

The Arrows got a run closer in the fifth inning after freshman
Adriana Nicpon walked to start the inning and senior
Leah Leshnack reached on a fielder's choice. Leshnack eventually came around to score on a bunt from senior
Sadie Jones to make it 5-3.

In game two, Ursuline got a run in the first inning after Leshnack started the game with a double and Jones reached on an error that allowed Leshnack to move up to third base. She eventually came around to score the first run of the game on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.

Hillsdale grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs and added four runs in the third inning to make it 6-1.

The Arrows once again responded in the top of the fourth inning with three runs of their own. Wilbur started the inning with a single up the middle and senior
Alison Hughes followed with a base hit. Wilbur came around to score on an error by the center fielder to make it 6-2. Nicpon added an RBI single to center field to score Hughes and Leshnack picked up her second double of the game to make it 6-4.

Trailing 7-4 in the sixth inning, senior
Paige Salisbury drew a leadoff walk to help start the Ursuline rally. Leshnack added another base hit through the left side and Jones followed with a single to center. Miller delivered an RBI double to score Jones and Leshnack to make it 7-5. Rawlings followed with a two-run single to right field to score Miller and Jones and tie the game 7-7.

The rally continued when Wilbur reached on an error by the center fielder and Rawlings came into score to make it 8-7.

The Chargers tied the game in their final at-bat before Ursuline reclaimed the lead in the eighth inning that started with a Miller single. Rawlings got another base hit up the middle to put two on with no outs in the frame. After a strike out, Rawlings and Miller both moved up a base on a passed ball and senior
Hannah Trent drew a walk to load the bases. Salisbury came through with an RBI base hit to score Miller and put Ursuline in front 9-8.

Miller picked up the win by tossing 5 1/3 innings of relief work allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out three.

Leshnack finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored while, Miller, Rawlings, Wilbur, Salisbury and Nicpon all had two hits a piece of Ursuline.

The Arrows will travel to Ohio Valley and Ohio Dominican this weekend for the final series of the regular season starting on Friday in West Virginia.
