Game Recap: Softball |

Falcons Take a Pair of Games From Ursuline on Tuesday

The Ursuline College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on the road at Notre Dame College on Tuesday afternoon.

Notre Dame College won the first game 6-2 and took the second half of the doubleheader 5-1.

The Falcons grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after scoring three runs off Ursuline's senior starter Sadie Jones.

Jones settled in after the first inning before allowing a three-run homer in the home half of the third to make it 6-0. Jones then went on to black Notre Dame for the final three innings.

The Arrows offense plated a run in the fifth inning when freshman Adriana Nicpon doubled down the left field line to score Kat Ferretti. In the sixth inning, senior Leah Leshnack doubled and scored on an RBI single from senior Karlie Wilbur.

Jones took the loss with six innings of work in which she allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out two and not issuing a walk.

Leshnack finished game one 2-for-3 and Ferretti added a pair of hits and RBI.

In game two, Notre Dame scored two runs in the first inning before Leshnack belted her first home run of the season over the left field fence to cut the lead in half at 2-1. The Falcons added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Leshnack is now tied for the all-time program lead with nine career home runs and finished game two 3-for-3.

Rawlings suffered the loss with six innings of work while allowing five runs, four of which were earned while striking out four and allowing seven hits.

Ursuline opens Great Midwest play on Wednesday afternoon at Malone in a make-up game from last weekend.
