The Ursuline College softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday afternoon on day one of the Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Ursuline lost game one to Truman State 4-0 and fell to #12 Illinois-Springfield 9-5 in the second game of the day.
In game one, the Arrows fell to Truman State 4-0 after the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. They added a second run in the third inning and a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
The Arrows bats got on track late in the second game against the Prairie Stars. UIS scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and scored nine times in the first three innings before Ursuline responded in the fourth.
After there were two outs in the inning, freshman
Nicole Rawlings reached on an error and senior
Karlie Wilbur followed with her second triple of the season to plate Rawlings and make it 9-1. Senior
Alison Hughes reached on a fielders' choice that allowed Wilbur to score the second run of the inning to make it 9-2.
Ursuline continued to chip away in the fifth inning after freshman
Ashley Buttolph drew a one-out walk and senior
Sadie Jones followed with a base hit. Junior
Brooklyn Miller got the second hit of the inning with a base hit that loaded the bases with only one out. Rawlings singled and ended up at third base after an error that allowed all three runners to score to make it 9-5.
Jones took the loss in game two after allowing six runs, five earned in two innings of work. Rawlings tossed four innings and allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking two.
The Arrows will continue play in Tennessee on Saturday with two more games starting at 11:00am EST against the University of Indianapolis followed by a meeting with Rockhurst at 1:00 PM.
