Pickens Second Half Goal Sends Arrows to G-MAC Tournament For the Eighth Year in a Row

For the eighth consecutive year the Ursuline College soccer team will appear in the Great Midwest Tournament after a 3-2 win in the regular season finale over Lake Erie on Tuesday afternoon.

The Arrows came out strong on offense as they took the first eight shots of the game, seven of which were on goal before senior Sarah Mitchell struck with her seventh goal of the season on a pass from junior Rachel Blumfeldt to make it 1-0 just 10 minutes into the game.

Blumfeldt was on the scoring end of the second goal, this time on a centering pass from junior Jarah Froehlich to make it 2-0 in the 13th minute.

Just as quickly as Ursuline took the lead, Lake Erie responded by tying the game. Carley Kandel scored the first goal for the Storm in the 35th minute and less than two minutes later Kristen Redwood scored the equalizer in the 37th minute.

The game remained tied at the half with Ursuline holding an 18-16 lead on shots taken.

In the 62nd minute, freshman Hannah Pickens scored her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Froehlich that proved to be the game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Gina Cerny finished the afternoon with eight saves while the Arrows edged Lake Erie 28-24 in total shots and 17-10 in shots on goal.

Ursuline has appeared in the Great Midwest Championship game five times and won the 2014 tournament that was hosted by the Arrows.

Ursuline will await the results of the evening games to see who their Quarterfinal opponent will be on Saturday, November 9.
