Arrows Sweep Ohio Valley on Saturday

The Ursuline College softball team swept a G-MAC road doubleheader at Ohio Valley on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Arrows offense scored early and often to open up an early lead over the Fighting Scots.  Senior Rosie Lyard got hit by a pitch to lead off the game and moved to second on a groundout by senior Leah Leshnack. Junior Sadie Jones drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

The runs continued in the second inning after a base hit by senior Brigitte Snow who then moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Senior Bri Benge followed with a base hit to give the Arrows runners at the corners. Junior Alison Hughes drove in a pair of runs with a base hit to make it 3-0.

The big blow for the Ursuline offense came in the third inning after senior Gina Rosshirt walked and Jones lined a single. Sophomore Brooklyn Miller got the Arrows third hit of the inning to load the bases for Snow who crushed a grand slam to make it 7-0. It was Snow's first home run of the season and the Arrows 17th as a team.

Rosshirt picked up the win with a complete game allowing just five hits and two runs, one of which were earned. Rosshirt struck out four and walked one.

The Arrows offense continued to roll in the second game after the game was tied 1-1 headed to the third inning. Lyard started the inning with a base hit and Rosshirt reached on an error. With two runners on, Miller hit her first home run of the game to extend the Ursuline lead to 4-1.

Miller hit her second home run of the game in the seventh inning to push the Arrows lead to 6-2.

Along with the two home runs, Miller also picked up the win in the circle with two innings of work while allowing one run on three hits.

The Arrows are scheduled to be home on Monday at 3:30 PM when they host Walsh.
